DJ Khaled and Drake’s musical chemistry may be making its way to the big screen.
On Sunday (August 7), Khaled shared a video on Instagram of himself talking on FaceTime with actor Mark Wahlberg about his new single “Staying Alive,” which features Drizzy and Lil Baby.
Wahlberg stated that he can’t stop playing the song and enjoyed the acting in the accompanying music video, prompting Khaled to mention collaborating on a film with the Honestly, Nevermind hitmaker.
“I’m telling you now, you get Khaled and Drake to do a movie together, it’s game over,” Khaled said, to which Wahlberg replied, “I see. We should have a meeting. I got that movie with me and Kevin Hart coming out right after. We should just pitch an idea to Netflix.”
DJ Khaled liked the idea but said Wahlberg and Hart’s on-screen chemistry couldn’t compete with his and Drake’s.
“You know I got love for you and Kevin Hart, but it ain’t no muthafucking Khaled and Drake!” he joked. “I know you and Kevin Hart got a movie, but Khaled and Drake?!”
Wahlberg replied: “But listen, we should pitch the movie with the idea. Let’s set it up and hire a writer and go bang bang. I got you.”
DJ Khaled and Drake collaborating on a film isn’t that far-fetched. In the video for “Staying Alive,” the two had several hilarious scenes as hospital staff.
It also helps that Drake has acting experience from his time on Degrassi: The Next Generation and Khaled have appeared in films such as Pitch Perfect 3, Spies In Disguise, and Bad Boys 3.
DJ Khaled, on the other hand, has a new album to focus on before even considering a buddy film with Drake. God Did, his 13th studio album, is set to be released on August 26th, with features from JAY-Z, Kanye West, Future, and others.
Young Guru, Hov’s longtime engineer, has praised the rapper’s verse on God Did as one of his best yet, claiming the Marcy Projects mogul is “the greatest of all time” while confirming the collaboration earlier this month.
