A video has been released showing Kanye West performing songs in London that he wrote as a collaboration with James Blake, the producer James Blake.
“It’s my birthday, and West is playing tracks that we created I’m ready for gifts Thanks,” Blake tweeted earlier in the day (September 27). He also shared a video of West performing a track behind DJ decks. He also clarified that the track doesn’t duplicate The Colour In Anything’ song ‘Always’, however it is a brand new track completely.
In his tweets later, Blake added that he composed the track and two other tracks. Watch his tweets as well as a video of West performing a small portion of his new song below:
Although they’ve not released any songs together, Blake has been vocal about his desire to collaborate with West for a while. In 2015 the producer stated that West would be featured on “The Colour In Anything” (then named ‘Radio Silence.)
“Something was meant to happen, but I’m not sure what to say about why that didn’t happen,” Blake explained when the album came out in the year following, without Ye. “I would have liked Kanye to be featured on the track ‘Timeless’ but the lyrics didn’t come through,” Blake told Pitchfork at the time.
“I think that a wide range of events took place during his life. I stayed away from it. In the end, the tone that the music was putting out changed and at the end, I don’t think it could have been appropriate.”
Blake has a long track record of producing hip-hop artists. In recent times Blake has been awarded production credits for tracks with some of the biggest names in hip-hop like Vince Staples, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Electronica, and JPEGMAFIA. In the last week Freddie Gibbs dropped his latest ‘Soul Sold separately preview”Dark Hearted,” recorded by Blake.
In the year 2000, Blake released most recent studio album (aside from his ambient record “Wind Down” in March) “Friends The Heartbreak’. In the 5-star review, NME said the album was “James Blake at his most sexiest and most raw form, constantly transforming his form to find intriguing new ways to heal”.
West, however, has recently made a statement announcing plans to close the relationship with Gap as well as his personal Yeezy brand and the 10-year contract that was first signed in 2020. He accused the company of “substantial non-compliance”.
