Run-DMC Sing “Christmas In Hollis For The First Time In Nearly 20 Years.

Run-DMC has performed their Hip Hop holiday anthem “Christmas In Hollis” for the first time since the 1980s to be used in a forthcoming Disney special.

The following Saturday (November 27) iconic rap icons will be appearing on ABC to host the relaunch of The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration on television. The event starts around 8 p.m. Eastern Time on ABC and streams via HULU along with Disney+.

The pre-film special will feature guests from famous musicians like Ne-Yo, Jordin Sparks, and The Black Eyed Peas, who perform live versions of popular songs like “A Cold Christmas” and “I Gotta Feeling.”

The star-studded program will also feature a special, 20-years-in-the-making highlighted the performance of Run-DMC’s “Christmas In Hollis,” with Disney’s world-famous Magic Kingdom Castle as the backdrop.

It was released in 1987 the first single from Jimmy Iovine’s A Very Special Christmas compilation album The track “Christmas In Hollis” was later to become an Hip Hop classic and helped the album reach platinum 4x status.

A 2017 chat, Run-DMC spoke to the New York Post on the 30th anniversary of the album, Run-DMC disclosed that they nearly resisted making the song due to the fact that Hip Hop icon Curtis Blow had released a Christmas tune similar to theirs in 1979, with his Christmas track “Christmas Rappin’.”

“In Hip Hop culture, you cannot duplicate what’s previously done, and we weren’t certain about this,” said Darryl (DMC) McDaniels. After some convincing from the long-time Publicist Bill Adler, the group’s DJ The late Jam Master Jay was able to come upon Clarence Carter’s 1967 R&B single “Back Door Santa”” and decided to sample the track, and in turn, made the track to life.

DMC acknowledged that he believes that he will always be being a part of the festive spirit of the holiday season because of the popularity of the track. “At the time of the year I’m not able to go five steps in the mall without somebody shouting the lyrics of ‘Christmas in Hollis” to me” DMC stated to The NY Post.

“Just yesterday I was in the supermarket when a woman asked me”What’s playing on my playlist at the moment?’ I replied”Christmas in Hollis. She replied”How did you know? It’s a wonderful thing, but I had to believe that for the remainder the rest of my existence!”
