Wiz Khalifa Reveals Why He Likes Biggie More Than TuPac

Wiz Khalifa recently provided an answer to the one question that all rappers eventually get asked. Do you favor 2Pac or Biggie? Since the tragic murders of both titans, the Biggie vs. 2Pac argument has persisted. Rappers from all around the world—hundreds—have responded to this query. Wiz Khalifa was questioned by DJ Whoo Kid earlier this week during a SiriusXM interview about his preference between Biggie and 2Pac. Wiz has lived on both the east and west coasts for most of his life. Even though Wiz mentions 2Pac’s hard ethic and attitude with the appropriate respect, he ultimately agrees with Biggie.

He attributes his choice to Biggie’s intricate lyrics and the fact that you can still listen to him now.

Wiz Khalifa’s Choice

“Who’s my favorite? Biggie,” the 34-year-old responded at the 5:00 point of the interview. “Yeah, I like Biggie ’cause lyrically like, you can still listen to Biggie’s today and be like, ‘Wow, he really said that?’ Like he talks about clothes, and like brands, in a crazy way. Talks about cars in a crazy way, talk about women, he’s just really poetic, you know what I’m saying?”

Khalifa was careful to emphasize that by expressing his opinion, he did not mean to imply that he believes one rapper is superior to the other. “I just love how complex his bars are,” he continued. “Pac is raw. Pac is crazy, he’s hard. His beat selection was wild, his work ethic was crazy. You know, just his attitude and you know, everything like that. But I’m more on the Biggie side for sure.”

When Whoo Kid pointed out that it was being brought up since Wiz had relocated from the East Coast to the West and was now working and residing in California, Wiz laughed.
The Pittsburgh native has frequently shown his admiration for Biggie’s career by sampling him in his songs despite having grown up 400 miles west of Brooklyn. Both “The Race” by Rolling Papers and “Gin and Drugs” by Wiz and Problem sample the B.I.G. classic “Going Back To Cali.”

RZA, a prominent member of the Wu-Tang Clan, offered his opinion on the Biggie vs. 2Pac controversy in an interview with The Art Of Dialogue last year. RZA, on the other hand, supported the Death Row veteran, unlike Wiz Khalifa.

“You go to Pac, once again, immaculate voice, but what Pac had, I think, was a way of touching us in all of our emotions,” he said. “Like, Pac had the power to infuse your emotional thought, like ‘Brenda Has a Baby,’ ‘Dear Mama,’ but then he had the power to arouse the rebel in you. You know?”
He added, “And those two things — actually, he was probably more dangerous than Big. Notorious B.I.G., we could party with him, to this day we’re still … but Pac, we’re probably, going to point, he was more going into the Malcolm X of things and society fears that.”

The East-West Connection of Wiz Khalifa

Wiz connects the East and West sides of rap in a very special way. The native of Pittsburgh, who grew up 400 miles west of Brooklyn, has long expressed admiration for Biggie. even going so far as to sample the legendary rap artist on a handful of his own songs. The iconic Biggie song “Going Back to Cali” is sampled in songs like “Gin and Drugs” and “The Race.” Wiz is now working on his own music as well. According to him, he is prepared for the July 29 release of his experimental album Multiverse.

Wiz Khalifa previously stated that Biggie was his favorite artist in a Vanity Fair lie detector test that took place back in 2018. He quipped at the moment, “Feel like Pac’s flicking me off for saying that. Biggie wrote lyrics better. Pac was practically real life. Biggie could write a good story, and I certainly admire his lyrics.
Regarding Wiz Khalifa’s own music, he is preparing his experimental Multiverse album, which will be released on Friday (July 29).
